Keynote Abastract: Skills for Life - Creating Sustainable Future

It is likely that our future will be less predictable than it has been for the past several decades. Apart from the GFC, which challenges the rules and assumptions made about how economies best operate, there is the probable impact of climate change, with outcomes unexpected, such as the ferocious bushfires Victoria experienced in February. Within this uncertain and different future community organisations will be needed - their roles in supporting damaged and threatened communities will be increasingly important. Their role in bringing people together will be key to the building of strong resilient communities. Is the sector readying for this, what does ‘it' need to be, what skills and capabilities does the workforce and now and into the future need to have? This is a challenge the Office for the Community Sector in Victoria must address and with a mandate to work across the Victorian government and a requirement to work with the sector, the Office is working on this challenge - creating sustainable organisations for the future.
